Rachel, Katrina and I participated in the AF Women of Steel Sprint this morning. It was the first one for both Katrina and I. I had a great time. I really enjoyed it. The swimming on top of each other is a little ridiculous and I am horrible runner but otherwise it was a great event. I loved doing it with Katrina and Rachel. My Randy, Katrina's Ryan and Rachel's whole family were there to cheer us on! You were the best! Thanks!
My goal was to finish somewhere in the middle of age groups. In terms of time I finished almost exactly in the middle. There was a 30 minute spread between first and last and I was 15 minutes behind the leader! I came in 15th out of 25 in the 50-54 age group. I was 6th in the swim, 8th on the bike and 21st on the run. I have got to figure out how to run faster. I feel like I am not moving forward when I run!
I plan on participating in the 6th Ward triathlon, a 5k at Disneyland Labor Day weekend and then doing the Women of Steel next year (it is a little spendy but I like having it just down the street!) I thought it was a very well organized event. Keep me posted on other fun events too!
I have posted pictures on my facebook page. If you aren't my friend, look me up and request and then you can see the pics. I will also post them here but NOT TONIGHT! I am tired!
Barb
Thanks for all your help Richard and Rachel! You are the best!

Make memories.... Enjoy yourself
I'm currently sitting in a hotel in Milwaukee Wisconsin running a show for XANGO.... 18 - 20 hour work days with high stress..... this is NOT, however, what life is about.....
This is a quick blog to remind you as I always need reminding.... Make memories, stay in shape, and enjoy yourself... For some of you that may mean different things but when you are on your own and in unique locations.... Take some time to see things...
Earlier tonight before my last meeting I had 45 minutes and I went for a run... I ran from my Hyatt hotel 1 mile to Lake Michigan turned right at the War Memorial and headed down the breakwater for a few miles... This gave me a wonderful opportunity to contemplate life... pray, and just make memories...
It was a great memory and a wonderful moment for me.... I passed three art museums (One the shape of the bottom of a boat that also hangs over the water) an outdoor ampitheater at water's edge and several other remarkable art monuments ...
I won't remember the XANGO event forever but the feeling along the water front thinking of our War Veterans will stick with me for years.....
So I remind you,... Make memories, enjoy yourself out on the road and remember...

4 Week until Woman of Steel
Only 3 weeks of workouts left.... It's getting close and very exciting... The last week before the event you should be tapering and doing less for that week, allowing your body to repair a little more before you hit it hard on the race....
At this time you should be doing some speed training (Sprints on the track - Choose PG or a track with nice pad) and some hill climbing (Several consecutive up/downs on "the hill").
When doing speed and hills make sure you add a swim on the day after these workouts or a light recovery day... Slow run or swim after the bike or a slow bike or swim after the run day.... These hard days are to help your muscles not to hurt you.... Listen to your body.

How to be Completely Miserable
From Coach Keena:
I read a really terrific book by John Bytheway titled "How To be Totally Miserable" and thought you all might enjoy some of his wise words:
How To Be Completely Miserable:
I read a really terrific book by John Bytheway titled "How To be Totally Miserable" and thought you all might enjoy some of his wise words:
How To Be Completely Miserable:
It has been said that, in this life, suffering is mandatory, but misery is optional. We all have problems, but we also have a choice! We can choose to be happy or we can choose to be miserable.
If you want to be completely miserable then PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Believe that things will NEVER change (and then do everything you can do prove your point!)
2. Don't do anything! Miserable people wallow. Happy people know that activity and misery/depression are opposites.
3. Worry about things you CAN'T control.

Timp Tri Club Trail Runs: Fridays 6:30am
Join the Timp Tri club and get many workouts... Below is just one example of weekly fun runs that they do..... I'm probably going to try some of these with them as well.... Enjoy!!!
Hi all,
IT'S TIME!!? The temperatures are warming up and I'm anxious to get out on
the trails.? That being said, I'm leading a club trail run this week.? I've decided to try a new day this year so the run will be on Friday morning at 6:30 AM.? It will be dark for a short while so you may want to bring a headlamp.? Meet at the Battle Creek Canyon parking lot at the East end of
200 S in Pleasant Grove.? We may hit a little mud here and there, so don't bring your new running shoes. :)? For all you newbies in the club, the weekly club run is for everyone who would like to experience trail running, regardless of age, gender, or ability.? It is not a race or a real fast training run and we have never lost anyone!? I hope to see some new and old faces.?
